Germanium or Geranium?

War Eagle Logo

When you hear the word 'germanium,' do you conjure up visions of flowers?  If so, you're not alone as most people confuse this obscure metal with the flowering plant geranium. Germanium is a commodity that is primarily mined and produced by just a handful of relatively large companies worldwide.  War Eagle Mining, www.wareaglemining.com, (TSX: WAR/US Pink Sheets), based in Vancouver, Canada, competes in the germanium sector against global companies including Teck Cominco and Umicore.

Germanium, one of the most important of the advanced electronic materials, is used in semiconductor devices, fiber optic systems, and infrared sensors for ships, aircraft, missiles, tanks and anti-tank units. Because of its importance in these applications, germanium was added to the National Defense Stockpile in the early 1980s.

With concerns that global production of this important mining by-product is controlled by multi-national global companies, War Eagle Mining sought Vorticom's help to level the germanium playing field by becoming the North American leader.  Today, the company is actively exploring and developing new sources of this precious by-product in Chihuahua, Mexico, La Ronge, Saskatchewan and Northwest territories of Canada.  Vorticom arranged for several intrepid reporters to travel thousands of miles to visit War Eagle Mining's Tres Marias germanium mine in a remote corner of Mexico.  Fox Business Network, Reuters, Thomson Financial and CIM Magazine introduced the public to War Eagle Mining and germanium.
