Cutting Against the Grain to Build Awareness of Algae Biofuel

Valcent Logo

Could algae the green slime that forms on the top of stagnant pools reduce greenhouse gas emissions and be the source of a new renewable bio-fuel?  Valcent Products, www.valcent.net turned to Vorticom to create brand awareness and acceptance of algae as a potent biofuel source. Algae biofuel was initially looked at suspiciously by media who thought it belonged in the category of bunko artists who were bathtub algae enthusiasts. A steady diet of by-lined articles and media interviews with trade and national media turned the tide with monitoring reports placing the value of the Vertigro coverage in excess of $2 million.  Vorticom's branding campaign for Vertigro has resulted in leading print and online coverage, reaching well over 6M in total circulation including the El Paso Times, the Houston Chronicle, Reuters, ZDNet, Report on Business, Fuel Magazine, Biodiesel Magazine, Biomass Magazine, the German edition of Technology Review, and others .  Broadcast media included CNN, Marketwatch, Telemundo and dozens of regional broadcasters across the country.

"We are firmly established as a market player to watch," says Glen Kertz, president, Valcent Products.  "The interest that the public relations outreach has secured is amazing and there is not a day that goes by that we don't hear from interested alliance partners and others who want to do business with our company."  Additionally, the company employs many people from the area, and is viewed as an 'eco-forward' company to work for in the region.  Vertigro's future is green!  Click to watch Glen Kertz on CNN, Bloomberg TV's Night Talk with Mike Schneider and Fox Business Network's Happy Hour show:

Ambius Blooms with a New Name

Ambius Logo

What's in a name? Everything - especially when it comes to one's business.  Initial Tropical Plants, the leading provider of plants and services for the workplace, sought to introduce its new global brand name of Ambius to the North American marketplace in late March 2008.   The North American name change followed the global brand name change from Initial Tropical Plants and Rentokil Tropical Plants to Ambius which was launched in 12 countries across three continents last year.  The public relations challenge was to introduce a unified global brand name that celebrates the company's history and 'roots' while presenting a focused and consistent message with a clear vision to customers.

The company relied on public relations and publicity to create external awareness of the new name.   Vorticom recommended the development of a series of bylined articles from company management which highlighted the sensory differentiators of the new brand.  An interview with company horticulturalist Ken Brewer led to Vorticom's development of an article titled "Top Plants that Touch the Five Senses."  Dialogue with Michelle Rodwell led to the development of an article titled "Reflections: The Birth of a New Global Brand."

In addition to placing the bylined articles for publication in print venues, regional leaders were tapped to speak to the sensory plants topic for print, radio and television interviews and workplace study was commissioned on the role of the work environment in attracting and retaining employees.

North America's heavy oil and bitumen deposits are estimated to contain more than 3 trillion barrels of resource.  While major oil companies have largely abandoned the pursuit of heavy oil in the United States outside of California, MegaWest Energy, www.megawestenergy.com, a publicly held North American oil and gas company (OTC BB: MGWSF), is aggressively pursuing the acquisition and exploitation of large, prospective heavy oil projects in the United States and Canada. MegaWest Energy's compelling story has been placed by Vorticom in many major media outlets such as Financial Times, Associated Press, Reuters, Rigzone, Oil & Gas Journal and many more
